<image:caption>It is essential that we listen to our client’s story and implement an individual approach to rehabilitation. My aim is to provide a holistic approach to assessment and treatment. I find that avoiding physical activity for fear of worsening symptoms does not usually help pelvic floor issues. Together we will find what you can do symptom free and build a platform to enable you to reach your goals.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Pregnancy & childbirth can affect a woman’s physical health & wellbeing resulting in changes to your posture, breathing function, abdominal wall, or pelvic floor muscles. This could lead to back or pelvic pain, urinary leakage, bowel issues, prolapse or painful intercourse and could be a barrier to recovery. Although these issues are common, they are not normal and pelvic health physiotherapy can significantly help with your symptoms. Click below to book an appointment with me</image:caption>

<image:title>Hypopressive - Hypopressive Training</image:title>
<image:caption>The terminology – Hypopressive translates to the following ‘hypo’ meaning low and ‘pressive’ meaning pressure. Hypopressive training is not new, it has been around for thousands of years, used in yoga practice and known as Uddiyana Bhanda. The breathing technique is not only used to strengthen the abdominal muscles, but it can also help to mobilise the viscera, strengthen the respiratory system, and energise the body. Adopted by bodybuilders in the late 1970’s, the hypopressive technique was used and renamed the “abdominal vacuum”. Using the technique to pose helped to reduce their waist size whilst highlighting thoracic muscles. Developed in the 1980’s in Europe by Dr. Marcel Caufriez was modern day hypopressive exercise. The technique was aimed at postnatal women with pelvic organ prolapse and incontinence as a form of rehabilitation. In 2014 Low Pressure Fitness (LPF) was created by Dr Tamara Rial and Piti Pinsach as a full body exercise programme which integrates the hypopressive technique with a sequence of seamless progressive postures and poses. The technique causes a reduction in pressure in the abdomen and triggers an automatic response from the core muscles. It is widely popular in Spain however, is now becoming more recognised in the UK as an aid for many musculoskeletal issues including postnatal recovery and pelvic floor dysfunctions. <image:caption>It has been shown that the rate of re-operation with women following pelvic organ prolapse repair is as much as 19%. Studies have shown that the incidence of pelvic organ prolapse that required surgical correction after hysterectomy was 1.3 per 1000 women. It can often be daunting when increasing your activity levels after pelvic surgery. Physiotherapist guided pelvic floor muscle training and rehabilitation can help improve your confidence in returning to the exercise you love. <image:title>Pregnancy - Pregnancy</image:title>
<image:caption>Pregnancy is an exciting time in a woman’s life and where her body goes through many changes. Some of these changes can negatively affect our musculoskeletal system resulting in back or pelvic pain. The Royal College of Obstetrics & Gynaecology recognise that at least 1 in 5 women will get Pelvic Girdle Pain (PGP) and as much as 70% of women will have pregnancy related back pain. Early diagnosis and treatment can help to relieve your pain and is safe during any stage of your pregnancy. Click below to book an appointment with me</image:caption>

<image:title>Bladder Dysfunction - Bladder Dysfunction</image:title>
<image:caption>According to the World Health Organisation, bladder problems affect more than 200 million people worldwide. The NHS estimate that between 3 and 6 million people in the UK have some degree of urinary incontinence. The normal function of the bladder is to store urine until we are ready to empty, however issues such as leaking, increased frequency and urgency or pain are a sign that your bladder is not functioning properly. The evidence is strong that pelvic health physiotherapy can help. The National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidelines recommend that women should be offered lifestyle education and a period of 3 months supervised pelvic floor training with stress or mixed urinary incontinence. <image:title>Prolapse - Prolapse</image:title>
<image:caption>Pelvic organ prolapse (POP) is when one or more or the pelvic organs move out of their position and bulge into the vagina. This can be the bladder, bowel, uterus or top of the vagina. The symptoms of prolapse include, a heavy, dragging sensation in the abdomen or vagina, or a bulge that can sometimes be felt at the opening to the vagina and may cause bladder or bowel dysfunction. Some statistics include: POP is common and occurs in 40-60% of women. 1 in 12 women in the community in the UK reports symptoms of POP A woman’s lifetime risk of surgery for POP is 12-19% In the UK POP accounts for 20% of women waiting for major gynaecology surgery and is a leading indication for hysterectomy in postmenopausal women. Although a prolapse is not life threatening it can cause pain and discomfort and can significantly affect a woman’s quality of life. The National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidelines recommend a programme of supervised pelvic floor muscle training for at least 16 weeks as a first option for women with pelvic organ prolapse. <image:caption>Men's pelvic health issues can develop at any age, however it can be difficult to access appropriate care due to the sensitive nature of issues experienced. 1 in 10 men may experience continence or pelvic floor issues during their lifetime. Here in clinic I specialise in the treatment of men's pelvic health issues, primarily the following: Bladder issues - this may be frequent or difficult urination, including starting and stopping multiple times. Or you may be having urinary leakage. Bowel issues - issues such as constipation or bowel leakage can be difficult to manage Pelvic pain - pain which can be in the genitals, rectum, groin & lower back Prostate Issues - benign prostate hyperplasia is enlargement of the prostate as men age and can disrupt the normal behaviour of the bladder.
